What would you do if you knew you were going to die soon? Lukan is a novelette about exactly that. The story sets the stage for the "Sovereign Spirit Saga" by explaining how and why the apocalypse was unleashed upon the world. This first person account will take you inside a sick mind, whisking you around the world and back again, leaving you breathless and afraid of everyone you meet. Invisible death is stalking the world and Lukan is its name.
Author's Note LUKAN is also part of the newly released "Interludes in Hell" collection of Sovereign Spirit Prequels. You may prefer to buy the collection, unless you are grabbing LUKAN for free. "David Forsyth, through Lukan's confession, reveals with growing intensity what caused the Zombie Apocalypse of his Sovereign Spirit Saga... Lukan painted with precise brushes showing the reader his descent into hell, both a metaphorical one and—ultimately—a real one for the rest of the world. Modern Charon, he delivers death with a breath. He is the Alpha of the apocalypse, and his voyage marks the Omega for humanity. I could see the world through Lukan's eyes, feel his hatred mixed with guilt, and Forsyth well handles a complex character who faces at every second, and with every gesture, the choice between life and death, and this last one is destined to win. Readers of this prequel will have no doubts that they will embark on a journey of the dead that will reward their fantasy and lust for zombies. Read this, it will be your ticket to the Sovereign Spirit."

Selected reviews for the Sovereign Spirit Saga
“…Without a doubt one of the better Zombie books… The plot and storyline lends itself easily to being a long and enjoyable series." -- Anthony Wessel, reviewer at The Book Review and founder of DigitalBookToday.com
"What a truly entertaining read. I started reading on Friday morning and couldn't put the book down until I finished. Not just your everyday, run-of-the-mill, ho-hum story of the apocalypse." -- Paul Jones, author of "Extinction Point" and "Towards Yesterday"
"David Forsyth's Sovereign Spirit Saga is truly amazing. I'm an avid post-apoc / zombie reader and just fell in love with his style of writing, characters and story. No one will be disappointed in this trilogy, this is a must for any zombie apoc reader."
G Michael Hopf, author of "The End" and "The Long Road."
"This is one of those books that starts with a bang and I read waiting for the pace to slacken, except it doesn't. Too often, books of this kind start out with an action scene, and then we get chapters of backfill and descriptions of the soap opera-like travails of our characters. While Forsyth indeed fills in the characterizations, the key quality of this book is that most valuable in any kind of thriller--PACING." John S. Walsh, author of "Love Has a Taste"
“The Walking Dead meets Battlestar Gallactica! This novel has all the ingredients for an epic series of books and would be great for television too. It's like a Star Trek of the Zombie Apocalypse...” Tom McWilliams
LUKAN Sovereign Spirit Prequel Sovereign Spirit Saga eBook David P Forsyth William Rosenthal
There are quite a few very disturbing things about the main character who narrates this short tale. He calmly explains step-by-step the progression he goes through from being a hum-drum insurance salesman to his role as the bringer of the apocalypse. On almost every page, I thought to myself "This is not how the end of the world happens," and at the same instant found myself thinking, "Yeah, it is . . . this is exactly how the end of the world happens." The plot is not complicated. There isn't much action. The characters are not particularly interesting -- but the story is really creepy and weird and scary because it takes you inside the mind of LUKAN - the bringer of the apocalypse. It simply rings true: This is how the world as we know it is going to end.Product details

LUKAN Sovereign Spirit Prequel Sovereign Spirit Saga eBook David P Forsyth William Rosenthal Reviews
I had already read Sovereign Spirit so I really wanted to read Lukan to see how it all got started. In spite of myself I felt sorry for Lukan. I enjoyed the book and look forward to reading the sequel to Sovereign Spirit.
Great prequel to Sovereign Spirit series. I enjoy all of this Author's books. He pulls you into the story and brings you along for all the fun and excitement of the post apocalyptic world.
If you are into the Apocalypse, this is the story for you. It's easy to read and believable, but several times I caught myself asking, could this really happen so easily? It moves along quickly as it brings about the end of the world as we know it. In one way it's the end of the world, but in another it's the beginning of an entire world (a series of books by the author). There is a multi-book series that follows this short novel. Next stop . . . sailing on seas of horror.
Very Short Summary- In this prequel, the reasoning behind the zombie apocalypse is revealed, along with the masterminds behind the virus.
My Review I'm so glad that a prequel was made. There aren't too many zombie stories that explain how the virus actually spread, or analyze the mad men behind the infliction of the horror they cause. The only thing I wanted to see happen in the end was the slow deterioration of the main character's mind as he slowly turned. This might have been impossible, since the character is writing a personal entry, but it would have given the ending a different feel.
Other than that, it was really interesting to see how the virus was spread all over the world. I do wonder if anything written in the prequel shows up in the books themselves. I can't remember if some of the places that the main character went in this prequel were mentioned in the books or not, but I'm curious to know if the prequel included pieces of the books themselves or not.
I really enjoyed this short prequel, as well as the books that follow.

I bought this book for my own enjoyment.
There are so many TEOTWAWKI books out there without any explanation re the cause of the apocalypse. Either that or you have to read 5 books into the series to learn the origin. This short-story prequel is well written and adds a great deal created to the world created by Mr. Forsyth. I'm eagerly awaiting book 4 (if there is going to be one), but this was a nice bit to tide me over. Great read.
This prequel is a horrifically fascinating start to David Forsyth's, 'Sovereign Spirit Saga'. A short story to introduce the reader to the hellish events to come. I've already purchased the "Saga" and plan to read it next. This book has infected me and now I feel that I must continue! ;)
Very well written with a simply terrifying rationalizations of a dying man. A deliciously creepy beginning to what I think will be an awesomely fatal series!
The year is... well, it could be this year. There is overpopulation in the world and we are using up our resources faster than we can replace them. War looms or is going on in distant countries. And a man finds out that he is dying of cancer, and has nothing to lose. Contacted by a secret society, he is given the option to be a vector for a "sterility virus" by taking a Round-the-World trip in his last two months of life, and he's told that this virus will help reduce overpopulation.
What would you do?
This short story is about what Lukan decides to do, and how his actions affect others. Even though this is a short story, you are given enough information about Lukan and his life and thoughts to genuinely like the man even as you want to dislike him. Lukan is a prequel to the "Sovereign Spirit Saga", and if the rest of the story is written to this caliber I believe that it will be interesting and well-worth purchasing.
